there’s not enough buffy on this blog

David Payne just pointed out in comments that rumors are going around that Anthony Stewart Head might be getting ready to start working on a new Buffy spin-off called Ripper. Coincidentally, someone on my team stopped by earlier today to tell me the same thing. Apparently my occasional interest in the show about the little blonde girl with the pointy stick has been noticed.

  1. We have been teased with this spin-off for years, along with other potential Buffy spin-offs, and we’ve been horribly and painfully disappointed every single time.
  2. However, this does sound promising so I am willing to hold out hope once again.
  3. Even though I’m sure those hopes will be dashed like those teeny fine china teacups that only hold like three sips of tea if you were to hurl them of a really tall building onto concrete. After making sure innocent bystanders below would not be hurt, of course.
  4. I know I keep saying my Buffy site is almost ready for its relaunch, but it’s true! Stay tuned for an overwhelming array of Buffy goodness. I know. You can’t wait. I can tell.
  5. Anthony Stewart Head’s character Giles (aka Ripper, hence the name of the spin-off) has always been my favorite, from way back when he was in those Taster’s Choice commercials. Which is one reason I started watching Buffy in the first place.
  6. If you need to brush up on Ripper while you wait for the the spin-off to never materialize, you should watch Halloween, followed by The Dark Age, from Buffy season two. And then you should watch Band Candy, from Buffy season three. You really should just go watch them anyway. They’re all excellent episodes. I have the DVDs if you need to borrow them. (Wouldn’t those links be better if they went to my own Buffy site?)

    Hey Vanessa,
Just a quick note here, but your last link “Band Candy” gives a 404… and, on that topic, nice 404 error message :P
Sigh, hopefully it’s true about Ripper. Giles has been my favourite character since the episode where he played that open mic night in that cafe… yeah, I know, that’s SO descriptive, isn’t it… but I can’t remember the exact episode.

Aww, Where the Wild Things Are. I have that .mp3.

Thanks for letting me know about the 404!

OK, I get that Giles got his nickname from his friends when he was into the occult, but exactly what does “Ripper” refer to?

And do continue with the Buffy posts over here. I published a post a few days ago, indicating that you know a lot about the slayer. Don’t make a liar of me.

Are you sure you want to see that “Ripper” spin-off? To me, it’d just be:

“Cup a tea, cup a tea, almost got shagged, cup a tea”.

Oh, he lives near me and came to open something or other at my Mum’s school I believe.

I bet his guest spot on Doctor Who last season got him hungry to get back on to a regular series. He was pretty awesome. He also read an audio book from the show, which you should totally listen to because it is ASH talking at you for over 2 hours! There is no bad in that. I uploaded it to my lj the other day, so you can snag it if you want.

I am excited about the site relaunch! I am not sure I have time to do any wallpapers but, you know, you can still ask. ;)

Hey, nice job on the post. Sorry I don’t get to your blog daily (yet). ;-)
Sounds like you are as frustrated about rumors of Buffy spin-offs as I am about rumors of the Mazda RX-7 being made available in the United States again. Though my heart has recently been stolen by the Dodge Viper (which I only leased for two years and no longer have it, yes the bald guy is me) I still follow the rumors about the RX-7 and get repeatedly crushed when it never makes it to The States.

I am looking forward to your Buffy site and perhaps it will inspire me to build a Smallville site (though I need to finish the other 40 ideas I haven’t finished; so I doubt it).

As I’ve said before, I love your site, the tone, content, and your ability to meld together all aspects of your personality into one. Meanwhile, I stay compartmentalized–so much so that I even go by my middle name at work and my first name everywhere else. (Read that story here, though it is quite dated).

P.S. Do I dare say that I am more of an Angel fan than a Buffy fan? *takes cover to avoid bullets*

How can you not notice fiesta Giles?

  9. [...] the majority of things. Links. Tequila. Women (errr, maybe not always…the more the merrier), Buffy, [...]

  10. Vanessa on 13 September, 2007

Barry, well Fiesta Giles isn’t really Ripper Giles, although I do love me some Fiesta Giles.

David, you can be an Angel fan. You obviously are wrong about it being better, but that’s OK. Everyone’s wrong sometimes. :)
amberlynne, I am counting on you!

Darren, I am apalled! How can you not love Giles? I do agree that a Spike spinoff would be even better though.

You did forget one very important peek into the character of Rupert Giles. The last ep of season 5 after Glory has been put back in her shell, and Giles steps in to finish the job.

As for spinoffs. I’d love to see something that ties up the Angel story line. It was kinda left on a cliffhanger.
